Interview with Ivana Lee – SOA Systems (SOA and Cloud Conference 2010)

Ivana Lee from SOA Systems was so kind to give us a short interview about what she does at the training and certification provider SOA Systems.

Hey Ivana, tell us a bit about you, SOA Systems and what you do there.

Hey, Thomas! SOA Systems is a global provider of vendor-neutral training, certification and consulting services. We strictly focus on industry practices, technologies, and standards rather than on specific vendor products.  We are regularly involved in the service-oriented computing and cloud computing community and actively participate in SOA and Cloud Computing events. For instance, one of the events we were actively involved with was the 3rd International SOA & Cloud Symposium that took place in Berlin, Germany this past October. As the Marketing and Event Coordinator with SOA Systems and SOA School, I oversee communication and act as a liaison for students and instructors. I’m involved with the management of the SOA Certified Professional (SOACP) curriculum. Also, I lead the organizing team for the annual International SOA and Cloud Symposium conference series and is responsible for coordinating program committee involvement.

How do SOA certifications help me in my career and daily life?

SOA School offers 26 course modules across 10 certifications. Through a series of seasoned course modules and exams, IT professionals have the opportunity to obtain a number of different certifications to recognize their accomplishment of gaining project ready SOA proficiency.  Having a SOA certification shows you have achieved a level of excellence in the field of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and service-oriented computing. SOA certifications also allow you to obtain a clear, industry-aligned skill set that you will be able to apply to any suitable vendor tool platform.

How long does it take to get a certificate and how does the process look like?

There is no specific timeframe to achieve a certification. It all depends on you. There are students who purchase Self-Study Kits to receive training and to become certified. The benefits of choosing this option is that it allows you to study remotely and at your own pace. On the other hand, there are other students who receive training and become certified through instructor-led public workshops. All of the exams from SOA School are proctored by the worldwide Prometric testing networks and individuals can schedule them at their local Prometric testing center. The only requirement in becoming certified is the passing of all required exams in the certification track. Please see to see the relationship between individual course modules and certifications. What may be of interest especially to your audience is the Cloud Computing Specialist Certification that was just recently launched. This program consists of three course modules and the content is purely vendor neutral focusing on the core concepts, technologies, mechanisms, costs, metrics, security, threats and other topics pertaining to industry Cloud environments.

Will Thomas Erl teach me in person ;) ?

He can be hard to reach but you can most definitely try ;) .  If you want to receive the latest news and updates on SOA Books and to stay connected with the SOA and Cloud Computing community, visit for links to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and more.

Thanks a lot for the interview, Ivana and have a safe trip home!
